On a guided tour, you travel with a group on a fixed itinerary, accompanied by a guide. An independent holiday is entirely private — the itinerary is built around you, not a group departure date. You have the freedom to customise your pace, stops, and experiences, while still having everything arranged on your behalf.

With a self-drive holiday, you hire a car and navigate New Zealand at your own pace. An independent holiday removes the driving entirely — transfers, coaches, scenic trains, domestic flights, or day tours take care of every journey between destinations. All the freedom, without the road.

It depends on your itinerary. Transport can include private transfers, intercity coaches, scenic rail journeys, domestic flights, or day tours that combine travel with activities along the way. Many packages mix several of these, and our consultants can tailor the connections to suit your preferences and pace.

This varies by package — always check the inclusions listed on each holiday. If airport transfers aren't included, they can easily be arranged as part of your booking. Just mention it when you enquire and we'll take care of it.

Yes. If you'd like to drive part of the route yourself and have transfers arranged for the rest, we can accommodate that. It won't be configurable directly on the website, but just include your request in the enquiry form and your consultant will build it into your personalised itinerary.
