Upon reaching New Zealand’s capital, make your own way to your accommodation where you will be spending the next two nights.
The day is yours to explore Wellington at your leisure. Take a stroll along the waterfront, immerse yourself in New Zealand history with a trip to Te Papa, or unravel the behind-the-scenes movie magic of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies with a trip to Weta Workshop.
Start your day by heading to the harbour, where you’ll embark on a leisurely voyage aboard the Interislander Ferry, journeying from Wellington to Picton. Upon reaching the northern tip of the South Island, make your own way to your accommodation where you will spend the evening. The remainder of the day is yours to wander and discover Picton at your own pace.
Depart on a scenic voyage along the South Island’s coastline today by hopping on the Coastal Pacific train. Traveling from Picton to Christchurch, this railway adventure guarantees breathtaking vistas where the sea mingles with majestic snow-capped peaks. Once you have arrived in Christchurch, make your own way to your accommodation where you will be spending the next two nights, and take advantage of the remainder of the day to discover the charms of the ‘Garden City’.
Embark on the final leg of your rail journey today aboard the iconic TranzAlpine, travelling from Christchurch to Greymouth and back again. Step out onto the open-air viewing deck and take in the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island — from towering mountain ranges to crystal-clear turquoise rivers winding through rugged terrain.
