Tour Itinerary

A morning small group tour of Auckland’s most spectacular city sights combined with an afternoon small group Wilderness Experience – a journey of contrasts.

Auckland is set on 52 dormant volcanic cones and is known as the City of Sails. Your morning tour includes Queen Street, Auckland’s central business district, Auckland University and the inner city park known as the Domain. It continues through the picturesque suburb of Ponsonby, with its colonial era homes before heading over the Harbour Bridge. Visit historic Devonport and travel to the summit of Mt Victoria with stunning panoramic views of Auckland City. Then visit Westhaven Marina, one of the largest marinas in the Southern Hemisphere, the Auckland Fish Market and Wynyard Quarter, before continuing on to the Viaduct Harbour.

Join the Wilderness Experience in the afternoon to continue your tour.

Just a 30 minute drive from Downtown Auckland brings you to the Arataki Centre, perched high in the Waitakere Ranges, where the sweeping decks give breathtaking panoramic views from the Tasman Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Absorb the local history and admire the magnificent traditional Maori carvings that stand guard there. Head further west and experience the power of the wild and rugged west coast. Feel the black sand beneath your feet as you stroll along some of the most awe-inspiring beaches the world has to offer. A short journey brings you to the lush rainforest where you walk amongst giant tree ferns and hear native birds. Learn about the fascinating local history and flora and fauna of the region from your guide. This gives a true insight and feel for our unspoiled native forest – a classic Kiwi experience.

Best of Both Worlds Reviews

Reviews from past clients of Relaxing Journeys. 10 Reviews. Average Rating 4.5 of 5.

  • 3Morning session was OK but could have benefited from more focus on the highlights of Auckland rather than the comedian attributes of the tour guide. Afternoon session with Sean was very good and his technical knowledge was fantastic.

  • 5The Best of Both Worlds really is! We had Wayne as our tour guide extraordinare in the a.m., who showed us the many wonderful sites of Auckland, which he knew amazing details about. His sense of humor made it a super enjoyable experience too. In the afternoon, we had another wonderful new driver and guide, John, who brought us to stop for some delicious meat pies for lunch and then to stunning vistas near Auckland. A special nature guide came to talk with us about the rain forest we walked through and it was super informative, beautiful, and perfectly paced. Our last stop included tea/coffee and cookies as well as walks on the black sand beach with its fantastic geological forms. What an absolutely wonderful way to spend the day. Highly recommended!

  • 5We took many tours in New Zealand, but the best by far was the 'Best of both Worlds' tour that we took in Auckland. Both the morning (city tour) and the afternoon (wilderness experience) had guides that were wonderful. We saw so many great things that I don't even have time to list them. I highly recommend this tour for people that want a wonderful overview of what the area around Auckland has to offer.

  • 4Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide and driver showed us around key attractions in Auckland CBD and trademark New Zealand wilderness. The experience was so much more meaningful thanks to the facts and history behind each site. There were also plenty of stops to take photos and have a wander at each location.

  • 5I am so impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm of both Alexander and Shawn. They made the day so enjoyable and I learned so much about the city of Auckland as well as the natural habitat surrounding the city. A great day, and I will definitely be recommending this tour group to other people wanting to come here. Thanks.!

  • 4If you have limited time in Auckland like we did, this is a wonderful tour for a more intimate experience of Auckland's suburbs and surrounds. Our tour in the morning was a relaxed and happy group who visited the gardens, marina and seafood markets before joining an extended group for the Western areas. An airconditioned and comfortable bus afforded us with a great view from all windows and I think everyone on the day enjoyed suburbs, beach and bush.
