Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise

Cruises starting in Doubtful Sound and finishing in Doubtful Sound
Tour Type: Mid Range Cruise
Duration: 2 Day
Tour Starts In: Doubtful Sound
Tour Finishes In: Doubtful Sound
from NZ $473 pp

The Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise offers a very special dinner, bed and breakfast wilderness experience. First, enjoy a cruise across the crystal waters of Lake Manapouri on a purpose built high speed aluminium cruising Catamaran, to West Arm before boarding a coach and crossing the alpine route of Wilmot Pass through some of Fiordland’s most dense rainforest.

The Doubtful Sound overnight vessel, the Fiordland Navigator, is designed along the lines of a traditional New Zealand coastal trading scow to reflect Fiordland’s heritage. The vessel is purpose built for these waters to accommodate passengers either in private cabins with ensuite bathrooms or in quad-share bunk style compartments with shared bathroom facilities.

Board the overnight cruise vessel at Deep Cove for a leisurely exploration of Doubtful Sound. The vessel has spacious deck areas offering stunning views of waterfalls, abundant wildlife, rainforest and mountains. It is home to bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and when in season, the rare Fiordland crested penguin.

An on board nature guide with specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora and fauna provides detailed interpretation in English with a roving microphone. Activities include kayaking and excursions in the tender vessels to explore the coastline. The vessel then anchors overnight in one of Doubtful Sound’s hidden arms.

The overnight cruise includes a three-course buffet evening meal and beverages are sold at the licensed onboard bar. The next morning, following a cooked or continental breakfast, there is time for further cruising before returning to Deep Cove and retracing the steps back to Manapouri. Suitable for most ages except infants. Not suitable for wheelchair clients due to steep stairs.

2 Day Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise Reviews

Tour reviews from past clients of Relaxing Journeys for the 2 Day Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise.
One of the best trips we did in New Zealand, crew and the boat was wonderful. This is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places that I have visite. Amazing and would recommend to everyone that goes to New Zealand.

Absolutely stunning beauty. The ship was cozy and comfortable and the food great. The 5 minutes of silence was terrific. Thanks for a wonderful time.

We were thoroughly impressed with this tour. The ship was very comfortable, the food was great and the crew were wonderful. But more importantly, the ecological experience was one of the best we have ever had. This is truely one of the last great wildernesses left in the world. Our Wild Life Officer, Carol, was brilliant. We came away with a much clearer understanding of the area and the wildlife. The fact that we were able to share it with a large pod of dolphin and Pilot whales was an unexpected bonus.

I took the tour while my partner and friend were walking the Milford. Although they raved about the best walk in the world, they were envious of the Doubtlful Sound journey that I took. Now we have another trip to NZ in the pipeline for them to kayak on Doubtful Sound. One special feature of the sound, beauty, solitude and grandeur aside was that there was but one or two boats there, it was not like being in the hustle and bustle of Milford Sound with a line of cruisers like taxis at a rank. Also thank you for not having one of those 'Magic Memories' photographers jamming a camera in your face everytime you board a boat to enveigle you to purchase photos & DVDs ad nauseum. I loved my trip and Relaxing Journey's representative Jarrod, booked fine weather for my days on the Sound, well one out of two was excellent and the clouds and mist gave the place even more character and waterfalls.

My wife & I had a fabulous time on the cruise, despite the rain on the first day. We were still able to kayak and enjoy the sights. Food was excellent & the staff was first rate, very friendly & helpful. Would recommend to friends & family.
