Waimangu Explorer - Valley Walk & Boat Cruise

Waimangu Explorer - Valley Walk & Boat Cruise

Waimangu Volcanic Valley and Lake Rotomahana were created on June 10 1886 by the Tarawera Eruption, and their history is extremely well documented. This is one of the few places in the world that has had its development recorded and measured since the day it was created.

The "Waimangu Explorer" has the privilege of learning this history in depth by adding the Rotomahana Boat Cruise, with full live commentary and guide-sheet, to the spectacular features of the valley walkway.

The cruise takes the Explorer in a circle around this new lake, a wildlife refuge and the deepest lake in the North Island. Man has had little impact on this most beautiful and very unique Scenic Reserve.

Geothermal activity on the lake edge is able to be viewed only from the water. The awesome volcanic landscape contrasts with calm waters and abundant bird life. This tour includes Waimangu Wanderer Hiking and a 50 minute Rotomahana Voyager Boat Cruise. No transfers.
