Marlborough Sounds Cruise & Small Group Scenic Tour | Marlborough Wine Trail

Marlborough Sounds Cruise & Small Group Scenic Tour | Marlborough Wine Trail

Depart Wellington by ferry onboard the Interislander and travel across Cook Strait, the stretch of water that separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The journey across Cook Strait has a dramatic beauty all of its own. Both Islands can be viewed, including the magnificent Kaikoura ranges, and there is often the chance to see wildlife such as seabirds, dolphins, seals, whales and orca. On arrival in Picton you have time to wander around the foreshore or browse the shops and have lunch before joining your wine tour.

Visit New Zealand’s premier wine region and sample the best the wineries have to offer. In a completely relaxed and friendly atmosphere learn some of the secrets of wine appreciation and experience Marlborough’s varied wine styles. You will visit 4 of the area’s most popular wineries. If you have a particular interest in any winery, your guide will do their best to include it in the tour. A winery lunch stop is included at your own cost. At the end of your wine tour, catch the ferry back to Wellington.

First, it was wonderful to be able to do a wine tour of the Marlborough region from Wellington - there and back in one day. The Interislander is worth doing anyway - why not add a half day tour as well? The schedule meant that I didn't have time for lunch once I arrived in Picton, but ducked into the supermarket for snacks. So I would advise people to have a bite to eat on the ferry. The email contact was very good - everything went like clockwork, and I appreciated that. Re the tour - the driver, Don, was lovely. It was a very small group, so it was quite friendly. He is a local and very knowledgeable, and has the NZ sense of humour. There was PLENTY of wine to try (even gin) in fact I had to say no a couple of times as it was getting a bit much. There was water in all places, plus plain crackers in a few places. Next time I will take some cheese - just as a palate cleanser/wine soaker! I ended up buying some wine as the quality was really good. We finished up at a chocolate shop - yummy! I would highly recommend this tour as it was fantastic value for money.

The Marlborough Wine Tour was very enjoyable and very well arranged. The tour guide, David, was very likeable, pleasant, organized, and enthusiastic. We thouroughly enjoyed the day. The only suggestion I would make would be to provide the option at the time of tour booking to purchase the premium lounge offering for the ferry. We bought it on board, but there was a slight complication because the base ticket was sold wholesale through the channel.

Wine Tour was great, guide and winery choices were excellent and the guide adapted to both the requests of the guests and the crowds at the wineries. The only downside was having to walk to the van pickup location, there was barely enough time to make it and it left us no time to eat.

Ferry to south island was fantastic. Wine tour was great. Ferry home a little disappointed with the food in premium lounge. Not enough food was put out and it did not get replenished after it was taken. No savoury stuff left, just chocolate mousse, biscuits etc. Food was better at breakfast. Morning tea was also provided.

If you\'re traveling from Wellington on a day trip as I was, this tour involved a 3 hour Cook Strait ferry crossing to Picton beginning early in the morning and 3 hours back to Wellington. I didn\'t mind because it was all part of the adventure for me. The tour took us to 4 wineries and a chocolate factory (bonus trip- from great our tour guide- Annette). This tour did not involve lunch because it starts in the afternoon. Annette provided the right amount of commentary during the trip and the choice of wineries was very good. I would recommend it to others.

Our bus driver was awesome!!! Very informative, jovial and very knowledgeable on the area. Each winery we visited we were welcomed very pleasantly and I gained quite an insight into the perils of being a wine grower, frost, heat, cold, wind rain, just every thing you could imagine. Would recommend the tour to anyone debating on whether to take the tour or not.
