Day by Day Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Dunedin

Welcome to Dunedin! Pass through customs, collect any baggage and your rental car, then make your way to your accommodation. The rest of today is at leisure to enjoy the local sights.

Dunedin is often referred to as the ‘Edinburgh of the South’. It is a university city of Scottish heritage that possesses a unique combination of cultural riches, fine architecture and world-famous wildlife reserves.

This vibrant, architecturally splendid city is framed by a magnificent harbour and there is plenty of sightseeing attractions or tours to choose from including visits to historic stately homes, gardens, museums, galleries, golf as well as brewery and chocolate factory tours. You could even book a rail journey through the famous Taieri Gorge and much more.

Day 2
Dunedin

Begin your day with free time to explore Dunedin.

This afternoon, board the Taieri Railway for a spectacular train journey into Central Otago. You’ll journey through the rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge as well as travel across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved out by hand more than 100 years ago.

A full commentary is provided and there is plenty of stops for photo opportunities. This prestigious tourist train is a “must-do” on any visit to Otago.

Day 3
Dunedin

This morning you will embark on a half day cruise and tour to Taiaroa Heads. Cruise the full length of the beautiful Otago Harbour to the tip of the Portobello Peninsula. At Taiaroa Heads, you’ll enjoy unrivalled viewing of the mainland nesting place of the Northern Royal Albatross and see New Zealand Fur Seals basking in their natural environment.

You may also get to see Dolphins, Sea Lions, Blue Penguins and many other species of bird as well as marine life. The commentary provides an informed and fascinating insight into the history as well as the geology of the area. Return back to the city by road, taking in the spectacular harbour and ocean views.

Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4
