Day by Day Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Christchurch

“Haere Mai” Welcome to Christchurch – the Garden City! Disembark, pass through customs, collect your luggage and make your way to your luxury boutique hotel – it’s time to start your holiday.

The George epitomises supreme comfort and is renowned for offering a personalised stay as well as attentive staff. Located in the heart of Christchurch overlooking the picturesque Hagley Park and river Avon, you will find this peaceful Christchurch accommodation just steps from the cultural precinct and key attractions.

What should you do with the rest of the day? Take it slow, sit back and relax, punting down the River Avon through the stunning Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

Day 2
Akaroa

Travel to Akaroa, over the beautiful Banks Peninsula on a high summit route which gives glorious views of farmlands, Akaroa Harbour, the Canterbury Plains and the distant Southern Alps as well as remote bays indenting the coastline.

You have an opportunity to wander around the charming 150 year old French harbour side village of Akaroa with it’s museum of settlers’ history, art and craft shops and studios before enjoying lunch at an award winning cafe.

Join the Eco-marine Nature and Harbour cruise on the Akaroa Harbour. Your cruise is packed with highlights including the rare, New Zealand native dolphin – the Hector’s Dolphin, as well as penguins and other sea birds. You’ll see giant volcanic sea cliffs and hear about Akaroa’s fascinating past.

Each cruise is fully narrated by your skipper who has extensive knowledge of the nature, wildlife and history of the harbour. On the journey back we visit the Cheese Factory at Barry’s Bay, the only one remaining on the peninsula from a bygone era.

Day 3
Kaikoura

After departing Christchurch you travel through the beautiful rural pastoral scenes of North Canterbury to Kaikoura where the mountains meet the sea. Kaikoura is world renowned for the variety of marine mammals which can be seen, not least of all the giant Sperm Whales and the acrobatic Dusky Dolphins.

On your arrival in Kaikoura you will be transferred to your whale watch tour. Look for majestic Sperm Whales and Dusky Dolphins. Other sightings might include Southern Right, Humpback and Pilot whales. Enjoy a cafe lunch and drive to a lookout with spectacular views of the peninsula as well as the Pacific Ocean.

Visit a seal colony where fur seals may be viewed at close quarters. Experience some local wines at either a Kaikoura or Waipara Winery.

Day 4
Christchurch

Sadly, your holiday has finished. Make your way out to the airport for your onward flight.
