Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Welcome to Dunedin! Pass through customs, collect any baggage and sign for your rental car on arrival at Dunedin airport, before making your way to your accommodation located just a few minutes from the city centre.
After checking in and getting yourself settled, turn your roving eye outside and enjoy a free afternoon in the Edinburgh of New Zealand. (2 nights)
Dunedin is widely regarded as the best preserved Victorian and Edwardian heritage city in the southern hemisphere. It is also home to some of New Zealand’s top fashion designers and vibrant cafes and bars.
Take time to enjoy the rich historical architecture and abundance of wildlife to be found in this fascinating area. Take a hike or a nature tour on the peninsula today with its dramatic coastal scenery and great wildlife.
You will want to stop many times along the scenic coastal drive from Dunedin to the southern Catlins. Rocky headlands, sandy bays and bush fringed estuaries.
There are many short forest walks to beaches, streams, lakes, waterfalls, caves or blow holes. You will see plenty of penguins, seals, dolphins, forest birds and seabirds. (2 nights)
Watch the little Hector’s dolphins surfing in the bay, walk for miles with the wind in your hair, sit on your deck and soak up the view. Must see highlights in the area include Nugget Point, Purakaunui Falls, Cathedral Caves and Curio Bay.
Make your way to Te Anau today. The longer, wilder route takes you past Riverton, one of the oldest settlements in New Zealand, and then on to Tuatapere and Clifden, where you can investigate caves and discover the historic suspension bridge.
Visit spectacular Lake Manapouri before you arrive in Te Anau. (2 nights)
Today we’ve included the Milford Sound Nature Cruise. Travel by luxury coach on an unforgettable journey into Milford Sound. Upon arrival at Milford Sound, board your vessel, the Milford Mariner or Milford Wanderer which is designed along the lines of a traditional trading scow; purpose built to operate in the fiords and offering a laid back, extended, 2.5 hour cruise.
Explore dramatic, moody Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most famous waterway. Throughout your cruise, your nature guide provides an engaging commentary about the magnificent scenery and wildlife (English only). Keep a look out for dolphins, seals and penguins.
Follow the dramatic southern shores of Lake Wakatipu today and onto Arrowtown. Queenstown is just 15 minutes away but Arrowtown is a quaint historic centre with some of New Zealand’s best restaurants.
Browse the shops and pick a restaurant for dinner tonight. (2 nights)
Your Funyak trip is an amazing escape deep into the heart of the world-renowned Mt Aspiring National Park and an opportunity to get close to nature. Combine wilderness jet boating with unique Funyak inflatable canoes for a fun way to explore the Dart River as well as hidden side streams, rock pools and dramatic chasms.
Sadly, your holiday is at an end and you deliver your car back to the rental car depot at Queenstown airport today for your onward flight. Here, we bid you a fond farewell and hope you leave with many happy memories of your stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
