Located only 90 minutes’ drive north of Christchurch and inland Hanmer Springs is a cute little mountain village nestled in the valley between two mountain ranges, the inland Kaikoura ranges to the East and the Southern Alps to the West. An ideal location all year round, Hanmer is a great base for skiing and snowboarding in the winter months and a base for bush walking and mountain biking during the summer months and the perfect place to relax anytime.
Hanmer Springs is so named for the natural hot springs that emerge from beneath the village where they find their way to the surface and harnessed in a thermal pool complex in the centre of town.

The Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa has seven open air thermal pools, three sulphur pools and four private thermal pools and is open early through late every day. The area also boasts 40km of biking tracks and 56km of walking tracks for the outdoor enthusiasts, as well as many different restaurants and cafes and of course a local golf course.
The Hanmer region is home to some breathtaking scenery of the mountains and valleys. At the Waiau gorge – just minutes from the village – they offer activities such as jetboating, bungy jumping, white water rafting and quad bike tours.
Further afield you’ll find the North Canterbury wine region with several wineries and restaurants to visit , Kaikoura peninsula further north and to the West the Nelson lakes National park which is a scenic way to get to the West Coast and even Nelson further north.
