Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Welcome to Queenstown, a region renowned for its incredible adventure activities and spectacular outdoor terrain. Queenstown is a four season resort with distinct and beautiful seasons that can be enjoyed all year round. On arrival today you’ll be transferred to your accommodation and the rest of the day is at leisure. (2 nights)
Today is at leisure to explore this picture postcard town. Queenstown has a unique and inspirational range of activities to suit everyone. Families have lots to choose from on land, lake or in the air, and if you love golf, biking, walking, sailing and fishing then perhaps you need to consider staying a few more days!. We recommend the world famous Shotover Jet boat ride or perhaps explore landscapes only accessible by 4WD vehicles while discovering exciting Lord of the Rings film locations. If you’re looking for a more relaxing experience then enjoy being pampered at one of Queenstown’s luxurious day spas or sink into a therapeutic hot pool. Finish your day with dinner at one of more than 150 restaurants that Queenstown has to offer and then settle in for the evening at a cosy wine bar or friendly pub. Whatever your interests are, Queenstown is sure to deliver.
An early start takes you alongside the lake to Kingston, then to Mossburn and Lake Te Anau. Soon you plunge into the beech forests of the beautiful Eglinton Valley then it’s on through the Homer Tunnel to the awesome Cleddau Canyon and the steep descent to Milford Sound. Later today your coach climbs back over the divide and returns you to Te Anau. Overnight in Te Anau. (L)
Leaving the stunning region of Te Anau, your journey today will showcase more of the South Island’s scenery. Pass through the town of Gore, the country music capital of New Zealand and continue on to Balclutha over the Clutha River before arriving into the city of Dunedin in the early afternoon. (2 nights)
Today is free for you to explore Dunedin, New Zealand’s oldest city. Nestled in a valley surrounded by green hills at the head of a long harbour, the city’s natural beauty attracted Scottish migrants back in 1848 who gave it the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh. Dunedin boasts a fascinating combination of cultural riches, beautiful architecture and world – famous wildlife reserves on the Otago Peninsula. Tours depart from Dunedin to the Otago Peninsula daily. The wildlife reserves are home to colonies of Hoiho (Yellow Eyed Penguins) and Blue Penguins. There are also breeding colonies of the New Zealand fur seal and the peninsula is the only mainland nesting place for Northern Royal Albatross in the world. Larnach Castle is also a must see for any visitor to Dunedin. New Zealand’s only castle built in 1871 proudly displays its 14 hectare garden and grounds which has been recognised as a Garden of International Significance. If you’re feeling energetic we suggest a guided or independent cycle tour that explores some of Otago’s most striking scenery and gold mining history. Rub shoulders with the locals with a visit to the ‘Otago Farmers Market’, open every Saturday. This is one of Dunedin’s ‘Must Do’ activities showcasing the regions fresh local produce and lively entertainment to suit all ages.
Board the Taieri Gorge Train at Dunedin’s historic railway station. Journeys through the rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago, to Pukerangi. A full commentary is provided and there are plenty of stops for photo opportunities. On arrival back into Dunedin, board your coach and journey back to Queenstown.
Sadly your trip is at an end. Today you will be picked up from your accommodation and transferred to the airport for your journey home. “Kia tuupato te haere!” – Have a safe journey home!
