Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and a hub for shopping and dining. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. Enjoy the opportunity to explore this fascinating city. Auckland has so much to offer, from deserted islands just off the coast, lush native bush out west, and sophisticated inner city streets ideal for shopping and dining. Take some time to explore Auckland’s vibrant waterfront this afternoon, and even better if time permits add an extra day in Auckland to experience a slice of what this city has to offer.
This morning board your coach and enjoy a comfortable journey south through New Zealand’s Waikato region known for its rich agricultural and pastoral landscapes, this large fertile basin is created by the Waikato River. You will pass through the picturesque tree-lined town of Cambridge before stopping for refreshments at the timber town of Tokoroa. Continue south to your final destination of Taupo. Arriving just after midday, you have plenty of time this afternoon to explore this thrilling town that boasts the largest freshwater lake in Australasia. The afternoon is free for you to explore or relax.
This morning you join a small group guided tour of Taupo’s main attractions and sights. Taking in Taupo’s picturesque lakefront, and township, visit Taupo Marina, the Huka Falls – New Zealand’s most visited tourist attraction. Walk amongst the steam clouds of the Craters of the Moon and experience boiling mudpools and bubbling hotsprings. You also visit ‘Huka Honey Hive’ & sample the wild honey & taste delicious real honey ice cream. Next is Wairakei Geothermal Borefield which harnesses geothermal steam & then onto Aratiatia Rapids which has a spectacular daily flooding of the some of the biggest and most scenic rapids in Australasia. After your guided tour around Taupo its back onboard the coach heading north to Rotorua. Tonight you will attend a hangi (feast) and concert, an authentic and intimate Maori experience. Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour around three of Rotorua’s iconic visitor attractions. Experience Te Puia, a centre of Maori culture and a thermal wonderland of impressive geysers and boiling mud pools. Visit Rainbow Springs Nature Park, which showcases native flora and fauna as well as the New Zealand Kiwi. Then see NZ’s agricultural industry in action with a sheep shearing display and sheep dog trials at the Agrodome.
After lunch join a discovery of Rotorua and its lakes onboard a WWII Landing Craft. Your first lake visit is Lake Okareka with its amazing million dollar homes and abundance of bird life. Next you journey out past the Sacred Lake Rotokakahe (the Green Lake) to see the magnificent volcanic domes of Mount Tarawera. Your second plunge will be into Lake Tarawera where you will hear the stories of the devastation of that fateful day of the eruption in 1886. After cruising Tarawera you can disembark for your opportunity to capture the perfect picture and stretch your legs. Your return trip brings into view Te Wairoa (The Buried Village) before splashing down into Tikitapu (the Blue Lake) your third lake visit. Your homeward leg takes you past Rotorua’s burgeoning Te Whakarewarewa Forest back to the sulphurous aroma of Rotorua. This is a fun and enjoyable way to learn about Rotorua and New Zealand’s most picturesque Lakes Region.
After an early morning departure from Rotorua you’ll be travelling west through lush farmland towards Waitomo. Enjoy a guided tour through the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves with their amazing stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone formations. After the tour you will continue on to Auckland arriving in the city mid-afternoon.
Your quick tour to our shores has come to an end. We hope that you have thoroughly enjoyed your experiences in Rotorua and Taupo. Today you will be met at your accommodation and transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
