Itinerary
After collecting your bags, head to the Ayers Rock Resort Shuttle meeting point for your transfer to Desert Gardens. This evening, be captivated by the critically acclaimed Field of Light Uluru, an installation by internationally renowned artist Bruce Munro. Aptly named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku, meaning ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in the local Pitjantjatjara language, this is Munro’s largest work to date.
Before sunrise, head to the best vantage point to view the 36 domes of this spiritual place as the desert comes alive with the morning glow. Then, proceed to the west side of Kata Tjuta for a relaxing outback picnic breakfast. Discover the entrance to Walpa Gorge, named for the wind (Walpa) that whistles between the massive domes of Kata Tjuta. Your guide will explain the significance of this men’s sacred ceremonial site.
In the afternoon, travel back through the landscapes to the base of Uluru. Here, you will find the entrance to Mutitjulu Waterhole, learn about the Creation stories of Liru (venomous snake) and Kuniya (woma python), and see ancient rock art of the Anangu people. Learn how Uluru was, and continues to be, a significant site for teaching young Aboriginal people. Finally, experience an uninterrupted view of Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the background as the sun sets, while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine.
Today is free for you to enjoy at your leisure. Be sure to take advantage of the many fantastic activities offered by Voyages around the resort, such as bush food experiences, didgeridoo workshops, and guided garden walks.
After picking up your car in the morning, depart from Ayers Rock Resort and drive to Kings Canyon Resort (a 3-4 hour drive). Upon arrival, check-in and relax. If time permits, explore the shorter walks around Kings Canyon.
Depending on your travel arrangements, explore Alice Springs in the morning. Visit attractions like Alice Springs Desert Park or the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre. Return your hired car and prepare for departure from Alice Springs.
