This morning we journey into Aoraki Mountt Cook National Park to view Australasia’s highest mountain, before travelling on to Lake Tekapo, a picturesque town in the heart of the spectacular Mackenzie region, and famous for its turquoise coloured lake. Arrive at your hotel, situated on the shores of Lake Tekapo, and enjoy a special dinner of local produce.

Visit the tiny Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo, built as a tribute to the region’s early pioneers. Enjoy the pristine beauty and the azure waters of Lake Tekapo. Later, travel to Christchurch Airport for your afternoon flight to Auckland.

Travel north to the Waipoua Forest – one of New Zealand’s most famous kauri forests. Continue to the stunning Bay of Islands.

Explore New Zealand’s finest maritime park on a dolphin watching cruise to Cape Brett. Keep a look out for wildlife and cruise through the Hole in the Rock. Later, return to Auckland. Enjoy a special farewell dinner at the hotel tonight as your land journey comes to an end.

Arrive this morning in the port of Tauranga. After breakfast, perhaps disembark the ship for a coach transfer to nearby Rotorua where you can select from a number of sightseeing options. Movie buffs may be tempted to visit the Hobbiton Movie Set where you will gain an enthralling insight into the making of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Other options include learning about Māori culture at a marae, a traditional Māori meeting place, or many may choose to experience the thrilling sight of erupting geysers at the Hells Gate geothermal attraction. Others may prefer to relax and enjoy the scenery during a cruise on Lake Rotoiti, one of nine beautiful lakes in the district. A coach transfer will then return you to the ship in time for dinner and departure to the next port. (B, L, D)
This morning the MS Noordam arrives in the port of Napier in Hawke’s Bay. Known as the ‘Art Deco city’, Napier is famous for both its distinctive architecture and as a centre for gourmet food and wine. Napier’s dominating Art Deco building style emerged as a result of its rapid rebuild after a devastating earthquake in 1931. You can learn more about this on an Art Deco Highlights tour, or perhaps you may choose to take a tour of Hawke’s Bay wineries. Other options include a visit to Clifton Station, a working sheep farm, and a tour of the Tuki Tuki Valley and Te Mata Peak. Another possibility is a visit to the Clearview and Abbey Cellars where you can learn about the history of wine making in the region and sample some of Hawke’s Bay’s finest wines at the cellar door. This morning your ship docks in Wellington, New Zealand’s charming capital. The city is famous for its busy harbour, its colourful timber houses on the surrounding hills, and its Botanic Gardens which feature 25 acres of ponds, sculptures and beautiful native flora. Wellington is also famous for its historic Cable Car, which runs from Kelburn hill overlooking the city down to Lambton Quay, the main shopping street. Optional shore excursions include a Lord of the Rings tour where you will visit some of the locations featured in the famous film trilogy or a Seal Coast Safari to discover the rugged and unique beauty of the south coast in a 4WD vehicle, driving along unpaved roads and beaches to where a seal colony is situated. Overnight your ship has crossed the Cook Strait and is now in the waters of the South Island. You may choose to disembark in the port of Picton, which is the gateway to New Zealand’s famous Marlborough wine growing region. Shore excursions include a spectacular Sounds Seafood Cruise or a Wines of Marlborough tour. Another option is to visit the Ōmaka Aviation Heritage Museum. (B, L, D)
Today MS Noordam arrives in the charming port town of Akaroa, which is the gateway to Christchurch on the South Island’s Canterbury Plains. Today’s shore excursions include a city tour of Christchurch, which is continuing its recovery from the devastating earthquake of 2011. Other options include a nature cruise around the beautiful natural harbour of Akaroa, which was formed by an ancient volcanic eruption, to learn more about its fascinating geological history and rich marine life. Another option is to take a scenic helicopter flight and view the stunning scenery of the coast and countryside from above. (B, L, D)
Perhaps disembark today in Port Chalmers at the southern end of New Zealand’s South Island, for a scenic coach transfer to the city of Dunedin. Known as the ‘Edinburgh of the South’, the architecture of this former gold mining town is still proudly on display. Explore the city centre and see many fine examples of its Victorian and Edwardian heritage including the famous historic railway station, the town hall, the municipal chambers and St Paul’s Cathedral. Optional excursions today include a visit to the historic Larnach Castle or a tour of the beautiful and wildlife-abundant Otago Peninsula. (B, L, D)
Today our ship enters the glacial-fed waters of the spectacular Milford Sound – this marks the cruise highlight for many. All hands will be on deck as the MS Noordam cruises through the pristine natural wonderland of Fiordland National Park. Have your camera at the ready as you glide past towering mountains including the famous Mitre Peak, and see waterfalls plunging from the sheer fiord walls. Also look out for bottlenose and dusky dolphins and watch the shores for wildlife including Fiordland crested penguins and fur seals. (B, L, D)
Say goodbye to the Land of the Long White Cloud today as the MS Noordam leaves New Zealand’s shores and heads west across the Tasman Sea. In between delicious meals, you may decide to relax in your cabin, by the Lido Pool, or in one of the many lounge or bar areas. The more energetic might spend some time in the fitness centre or take part in one of the many on-board activities that are available. (B, L, D)
Another day at sea to spend relaxing and enjoying the facilities of the MS Noordam. Perhaps attend a cooking class or demonstration at the Culinary Arts Centre or visit the ship’s art gallery, which contains some interesting and original artworks. This morning your ship has crossed the Tasman Sea and arrived at Hobart, on the Derwent River. You may wish to visit the renowned Museum of Old and New Art, explore the charming city centre, or perhaps take a tour down to Port Arthur to learn more about Tasmania’s convict past. (B, L, D)
Today depart Tasmania and enjoy a day at sea. There may be some on-board activities you wish to participate in or enjoy a day relaxing. (B, L, D)
The MS Noordam has crossed Bass Strait overnight and will be docked at Station Pier in Melbourne. Perhaps venture into the city and discover its unique cafe and arts culture. You could take in the views of the city from the Eureka Skydeck or visit the famous Queen Victoria Market. Other options include a visit to the Dandenong Ranges or take a ride on the Puffing Billy steam train. (B, L, D)
The MS Noordam has left Port Phillip Bay and will make its way east then north along the New South Wales coast. Perhaps spend some time before the holiday’s end relaxing in the ship’s luxurious spa. (B, L, D)
Today your epic voyage ends as the MS Noordam enters Sydney Harbour and berths at Circular Quay. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
