Day by Day Tour Itinerary
On arrival in Queenstown please make your own way to the Heritage Hotel where we have your room booked for you. You have time enough to fall in love with this fabulous alpine village.
Dinner at one of the many restaurants beside the lake is just one of the numerous options available in this beautiful town.
We collect you at 8am for a private charter coach to Lake Te Anau. You are free to explore the town before the helicopters depart for your 20-minute scenic flight that will have you landing at the ‘PACIFIC PASSAGE’ in Doubtful Sound.
We acquaint you with the crew, the ship and safety systems before starting our cruise through world-famous Doubtful Sound to our anchorage for the evening.
Wake to the beauty of Nancy Sound with trips to explore the shoreline of the fiords along with the possibility of a crayfish-gathering outing. Later we venture ashore then move to Caswell Sound for more exploring. We will spend the evening on anchor at the head of Caswell with spectacular views.
Tracking north we enter George Sound where we have access to the beautiful Alice waterfalls. Then there is the option of a hike up to the lakes above for those who are keen for the challenging walk. Anchorage Cove is another favourite with hot water springs, a trip up the George River mouth and a beach walk.
We spend the night at the head of this ord. On clear evenings the unpolluted sky is full of stars and the top deck is your perfect viewing platform with the sounds of waterfalls in the background.
At sunrise we sail for Milford Sound. On our short sea passages you will see many of our sea birds including albatross varieties, sooty shearwaters and there could be the possibility to see dolphins and on rare occasions we encounter whales.
Inside Milford Sound we leisurely cruise the entire length, stopping at several waterfalls along the way. At our lunch anchorage, subject to tides, you will likely enjoy the most spectacular views of Milford Sound from the ship. We sail again in the afternoon for Poison Bay and Bligh Sound.
Bligh Sound is a Z-shaped fiord and named after William Bligh, the Governor of New South Wales. We usually lunch and go ashore at Amazon Cove. Then later, subject to wind directions, we anchor up in Bounty Haven and hear the fascinating history and stories of the lost tribe and the Wild Natives River.
We explore Charles Sound that is one of our favourites. There are two arms to Charles Sound and we look at both before the Emelius Arm takes us to the navigable Irene River. We can often venture up river to feel an extra dimension of Fiordland.
Tonight is the Captain’s farewell dinner and you have time to reflect on your adventure with the crew and fellow guests.
We return to Doubtful Sound to rendezvous with the helicopters and have you disembarking at 1pm. You expect to be at the Heritage Hotel by 5pm where your room is booked for Saturday night.
The night is free to explore Queenstown, dinner at a lakeside restaurant or a local vineyard. Another option is take the steamer across the lake to Walter Peak sheep station for dinner to give you a glimpse of life in the high country.
Your itinerary with us concludes after breakfast. We wish you safe onward travels and look forward to welcoming you back onboard with us again soon.
