On boarding a luxury glass-roofed coach in Queenstown, travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and through the rolling countryside to Manapouri. Then cruise across the crystal waters of Lake Manapouri to West Arm before boarding a coach and crossing the alpine route of Wilmot Pass through some of Fiordland and Doubtful Sound’s most dense rainforest.

On reaching Deep Cove, board a modern catamaran vessel, the Patea Explorer for a three hour cruise exploring the waterways of this serene and isolated fiord. There is plenty of time available to explore points of interest and view the spectacular alpine scenery including waterfalls, rainforest and mountains all the way out to the Tasman Sea. It is home to bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and when in season, the rare Fiordland crested penguin.

An on board nature guide with specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora and fauna provides detailed interpretation in English with a roving microphone. On the return cruise, the vessel’s engines are turned off and visitors are treated to the ‘sound of silence’.

There is also the opportunity to visit the Manapouri Power Station by coach before returning to Queenstown (not applicable 1 Nov - 31 Mar). Complimentary tea and coffee are available on all vessels (Lunch must be pre-ordered when booking). Suitable for all ages.

Reviews from past clients of Relaxing Journeys.

We had a wonderful day. The coaches were comfortable. The information given us by the drivers was useful and interesting. The mixture of time on the coaches and time on the boats was good. The pick up and drop off was appreciated and added to the smooth running of the day. The weather was beautiful although we do realise that you are not responsible for this! A fantastic day and a highlight of our time on the South Island.

A great day! I have arguably, never had a more professionally organised tour. From the taxi pick up, to the picnic lunch quality of buses and boats and the staff professionalism your company's organisation was excellent. I genuinely can't fault the day!

We had a wonderful time on this cruise. It was raining (no surprise) but it didn't diminish the experience at all. Loved the fact that the seals and penguins co-operated and hung around for photos. The staff were all helpful and knowledgable and we had a particularly good time with the coach driver, John Lockie, who knows how to entertain.

The sights were absolutely spectacular - certainly the highlight of the entire trip to Australia and New Zealand. Arrangements made from pick up at hotel to the coach and catamaran were superb and well organised.

If you are lucky enough to travel to New Zealand and visit the South Island then you must do the following tours. The scenery is fantastic and it is made more pleasurable by the attention to detail by the staff, they are extremely helpful, tours run so smoothly from bus to boat the couriers are very knowledgable and nothing is too much trouble. Marks out of 10 - 11

It's a very great experience on the Doubtful Sound. I was puzzled when having to choose between Doubtful Sound & Milford sound. It's obvious the Milford Sound is more commercialized as the advisement was much more than Doubtful Sound when we realized after arrive NZ. But a local friend told us the Doubtful Sound is 9 times bigger than Milford and much more spectacular. So we stick to our plan without any regret. Indeed it's a great journey. Initially we book date was 18 Feb 10, but that day morning we got some emergency and have difficulty to get our rental car from Queenstown plus the weather was raining! I called and you changed the date to 19 Feb 10 without any question even we informed them less than 24 hours before departure. Our travel consultant named Craig always responds very prompt and patient even for some extra help for the car rental problem. Thanks for their wonderful service. In my next travel to New Zealand I will choose Relaxing Journeys again.
