Tour Itinerary

This is the perfect tour for people on a self drive New Zealand holiday. Begin with a cruise across the crystal waters of Lake Manapouri to West Arm before boarding a coach and crossing the alpine route of Wilmot Pass through some of Fiordland and Doubtful Sound's most dense rainforest.

On reaching Deep Cove, board a modern catamaran vessel, the Patea Explorer for a three hour cruise exploring the waterways of this serene and isolated fiord. There is plenty of time available to explore points of interest and view the spectacular alpine scenery including waterfalls, rainforest and mountains all the way out to the Tasman Sea.

It is home to bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and when in season, the rare Fiordland crested penguin. An on board nature guide with specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora and fauna provides detailed interpretation in English with a roving microphone.

On the return cruise, the vessel’s engines are turned off and visitors are treated to the 'sound of silence'. There is also the opportunity to visit the Manapouri Power Station by coach before returning to Manapouri.

Complimentary tea and coffee are available on all vessels (Lunch must be pre-ordered when booking). Suitable for all ages.

We were blessed with perfect weather and Doubtful Sound has to be about the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The organisation was perfect, the lunch and refreshments excellent, and the bottle-nosed dolphins a real bonus.

We would thoroughly recommend this tour. Our guides were very informative, excellent communicators and were genuinely interested in our welfare and safety. We ordered lunch packs which were scrumptious and more than ample. Thank you so much for a wonderful day!

We were lucky to have beautiful weather so Doubtful Sound was stunning. The full tour across Lake Manapouri, the Wilmot Pass traverse, Doubtful Sound and the Manapouri Hydro Station was very well organised and the quality of transport was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly. The on-board commentary on Doubtful Sound was very informative. We would certainly put such a visit in the 'must-do' category!

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to NZ. Both boats (Manapouri and Doubtful Sound) were excellent. The staff and crew were also excellent, describing all of the surroundings as well as ensuring our safety. The bus driver was also excellent - good driver and full of great info. We even enjoyed the box lunches we were provided - lots of good food. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful experience
