Tour Itinerary

This tour is temporarily suspended until further notice.

The heritage township and surrounding landscape of Coromandel offers an almost infinite bag of delights for the traveller. Our full-day tour begins with a 1 hour 50 minute cruise from downtown Auckland's Pier 4.

No promises but eight times out of ten you'll more than likely find that we're accompanied by a pod of playful dolphins...they love the Coromandel too!

Your tour starts as you cruise across the Hauraki Gulf on the 360 Discovery ferry to the relaxed, friendly Coromandel Town. Here you’will be met by our coach for the scenic journey into town, during which you will learn about the region’s unique history from one of the locals. You will then spend a leisurely hour in Coromandel Town visiting the cafes or browsing through shops filled with New Zealand made products.

Then choose from 3 local attractions (attraction cost not included):

1. Driving Creek Railway – where the old pioneering spirit is alive and well! A lifelong mission of potter Barry Brickell, the railway snakes its way through re-planted native bush offering breathtaking views of the harbour and hills.

2. New Zealand’s only working water-driven Gold Stamper Battery - where rock is crushed to extract gold and silver. There’s a lot to see and you can even try your hand at panning for gold!

3. Waiau Waterworks - a large garden park filled with whimsical gadgets and interactive play things, wal worked by water. Includes covered picnic sites, a swimming hole and playground for the kids.

Transfers are included to each attraction as is the ferry back to Auckland.

Tour Inclusions:

  • Return ferry Auckland to Hannaford's Wharf, Coromandel

All in all a good tour, but one day is too short to explore Coromandel peninsula, as the ferry-time from Auckland needs almost four hours (for both ways), but very nice landscapes.

The tour was good. The only things that was a little confusing was knowing where to go once we got off the ferry. It seems like they get such small crowds that there isn't that much organization, but it was a nice day out.

It exceeded our expectations! The commentary by the guide was great, she was enthusistic about her job . We would recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Coromandel Discovery Tour - shame about the weather and rough sailing in the morning but hey ho, it was then dry for the most of the rest of the day! This was an excellent way to spend a Sunday, learning more about life in New Zealand and our tour guide was friendly and very informative. The time spent at each of the places was just right too - all in all a great time, thank you.

A wonderful day especially the driving creek railway. I was completely dumbfounded as to why our tour bus driver allowed other non paying travellers to use our bus as a mode of transport between the ferry and the town. On the way back I was forced to travel is a run down public transport bus that was running late because the driver said there was no room for my son and I on the bus for the final leg of our journey even though we were back at the bus five minutes before departure. I paid a lot of money to go on this tour and part of the tour was the luxury air conditioned bus. The driver did apologise but I certainly hope this doesn't happen to others.
