Unlike most self drive speciallists we try to be as transparent as possible and that includes no hidden fees!

Our self drive itinerary prices include airport/ferry collection charges and all Premium self drive tours include GPS automatically. (GPS is an option for Budget & Mid Range tours).

Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance including third party and public liability is also included in our rates. As with all insurance an 'Excess' applies - this is called an Accident Damage Excess (ADE).

Accident Damage Excess (ADE)

ADE applies to all vehicle rentals in New Zealand. An excess applies to all rentals. For standard vehicles the excess is NZ$2,990 and for 4WD vehicles, people movers and vans the excess is NZ$3,450. This 'excess' is the amount you have to pay before the insurance kicks in if you have or cause an accident.

This excess can be reduced significantly by purchasing Accident Excess Reduction (AER). For standard vehicles the excess is reduced to Nil and for 4WD's, People Movers & Vans the excess is NZ$345.

This can be included in your quote at your request or you can purchase it directly with the car rental company on your arrival. The cost of AER is approx $NZ28 per day depending on length of stay and vehicle type.

GPS Navigation units have a non-reducible excess of up to NZ$805 payable in the event of any damage, loss or theft of unit or accessories.
