Accommodation Classification

The classifications provided on this site are a guide only and are only our quality rating of the properties used. They do not correspond to any international hotel rating standard.

4.5-5 Star

Tours with accommodation in these classes are the best New Zealand has to offer, and may include hotels or unique lodge accommodation.

4 Star

You should expect good quality hotel or lodge accommodation on these tours. Rooms will often have sea, lake or garden views, on-suite facilities as well as in-house restaurants and bar(s).

3-3.5 Star

Accommodation should be generally acceptable to most people. In fact you should be pleasantly surprised. However in many parts of New Zealand (excluding the cities) hotels are in short supply, and this situation gets worse during the summer months*. All hotels have ensuite facilities.

2-2.5 Star

This class of accommodation is generally found on adventure or budget tours. They will not be of hotel quality and they may or may not have ensuite facilities. However the bed & breakfasts, farm stays, lodges, motels, and the occasional mountain hut have generally been chosen because of their location and local flavour.

No Accommodation

This rating means the tour does not have any overnight stays included.

* Short supply of quality accommodation during the summer season is one reason why many are disappointed when coming to book their tour. Without a place to stay you can't travel. Our advice...get in early to get the best rooms!
