Mangapapa Lodge

Perched gracefully on the pillared gateway to Mangapapa Petit Hotel, sit two lion statues guarding with pride this grand, historic homestead. Tall Silver birch trees line this wonderful old driveway with peach and apple orchards reminding you that you are in the 'fruit bowl' of New Zealand…There before you is prestigious "Mangapapa Petit Hotel".

Mangapapa is everything a gracious homestead should be. Built of weatherboard, the colonial style house has a veranda that wraps around the upper story giving breezy viewpoints of the 20 acres of lush, green, manicured gardens brimming with roses, established trees and orchards.

The entrance to Mangapapa hosts a grand portico balcony overlooking a fairy-lit umbrella tree with a seat built for two. Capturing the moment from the main homestead is a warm welcome, from the Hotel Manager and staff.

You need not think about carrying your luggage, nor consider doing anything from that moment on that resembles effort. The staff at Mangapapa are so obliging that you switch completely into luxury mode. At your own leisure, a refreshing morning or afternoon tea awaits you followed by a simple tour around the Hotel before being taken to your haven of indulgence.

The twelve-ensuite guestrooms are the last word in understated luxury. Their under floor heating and air conditioning soothe weather extremes and each is individually decorated and furnished with snowy white damask bed linen and soft colours.

Whether you stay in the Mangapapa suite, Executive suites or Lodge rooms, these are all the pinnacle of extravagance for the discerning. The attention to detail at Mangapapa is meticulous, from the sugar-dusted shortbread on arrival to the personalised menus at dinner.

Dining at Mangapapa

The menu changes daily to incorporate seasonal influences and its focus, by Mangapapa's Executive Chef, is based on the "complete dining experience" for which Mangapapa Petit Hotel is famous.

You are welcomed for pre dinner drinks and canapés from 7pm. At your own leisure you are taken to your individual candle-lit table and presented a personalised menu welcoming you to the 'Complete dining experience'.

To tempt the palate, an appetiser, a choice of three entrees, a selection of four principal dishes, a wide range of New Zealand fromage with falwasser wafers and fresh fruit, and for the finale, three stunning desserts. The evening is topped off with handcrafted truffles, tea or espresso coffee, before retiring after a pleasant evening.

Mangapapa's Executive Chef strives to compose full clear flavours based on the finest ingredients. The Chef states, "Food is one of our greatest sensory pleasures; the lasting taste of great food lingers in the memory". To complement the stunning cuisine, there is an extensive range of local and national wines, plus some superior foreigners - one newcomer from France is La Grande Dame of Champagne, Veuve Clicquot.

Awaken the next morning to a breakfast prepared for royalty. The whole Mangapapa experience can be as full or relaxing as you wish, from soaking up the sunny Hawke's Bay sunrays around the heated swimming pool or enjoying tailor made rejuvenation packages. Professional beauty therapists are available for consultations in our spa and sauna complex or at their beauty therapy clinic & French perfumery.

A personal wine guide is on hand to design for you an individual tour exploring a selected few of the 40+ wineries that 'Wine Country' has to offer. Other activities range from sightseeing, trekking, shopping, art deco, horseback riding, quadbike adventures, balloon flights, maybe visit one of the bay's five superb golf courses or tour the worlds largest Gannet Colony. Whatever your interests may be, Mangapapa gives you the opportunity to experience it all.
