Franz Josef Glacier Country Retreat is a new specially built, Qualmark 4 star plus, Boutique Bed & Breakfast Hotel. There are 12 guest rooms – 10 hotel rooms with ensuites and 2 ‘honeymoon’ suites.  The building design was inspired by an historical Glacier Hotel.  There are pictures of this hotel displayed in the dinning room.  The Graham Glacier Hotel burnt down in 1953 and was situated near the Department of Conservation Information Centre.

Each room has been individually decorated, named and themed after a local pioneer family, with photos and stories of these families displayed in the rooms. Room choices are Lake View Rooms with either Super King, Queen or Twin beds, Mountain View Rooms with either Super King, Queen or Twin beds, Johnny Schilling Room with luxurious Super King bed, sofa and spa bath, Wallace Room with a grand Four Poster - Queen bed, leather sofa and an old fashioned clawed foot bath. All rooms have:

Retreat Facilities

Franz Josef Glacier Country Retreat offers exceptional accommodation while retaining the intimate atmosphere of a private residence. You have the option of meeting and mingling with the other guests in the spacious lounge with large open fire, or retreating to your private room. We also have available a spa-bathroom, guest laundry and outdoor open fire/BBQ for all guests to use as well as a Café on-site offering Devonshire teas, espresso coffee and fresh home baking.
