Blenheim is situated in the Marlborough region of New Zealand on the north east corner of the South Island, due west of Wellington city. Blenheim’s attractions include the world famous wine industry – especially Sauvignon Blanc, the serene and ever beautiful Marlborough Sounds, gourmet foods and adventure activities to name a few.

The region enjoys one of New Zealand’s sunniest climates, with hot, relatively dry summers and crisp winters making it an ideal climate for viticulture. Blenheim is the focal point for the Marlborough wine growing region. A number of wineries are located on the towns edges, with many more just a short drive away.

Wine Region

Blenheim is the hub of the Marlborough wine region which is New Zealand’s largest, with around 65 wineries and 290 grape growers and over 4000 hectares planted in grapes, making it a wine lover’s paradise. The region is mainly planted in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.

Largely a flat town Blenheim is easily navigated on bicycle which is a nice way to visit some of the cellar doors. There is an array of eateries in and around the town which offer both local juice and superb views of the valley ranging from cafes through to restaurants.

Marlborough’s wine country is home to a diverse range of large scale and boutique local wineries, some of whom have opted for a more natural approach to wine making. Whether wholly organic, biodynamic, sustainable or eco-friendly, these wine makers believe that the best way to produce the finest wines is to allow the unique conditions of the land and climate to develop the flavours naturally.
