Nomad Safaris, operating out of Queenstown, New Zealand, offers small (max. 6 people per guide), personalised tours into NZ back country. We explore historic gold mining areas, some of the locations of Lord of The Rings filming and an exclusive high-country farm. We use fully-equipped Land Rover Defenders to handle all terrain for our 4WD safaris. Our Quad Bike tours use fully-equipped Honda 400cc ATV Quads which are completely automatic.

Safari of the Scenes
Nomad Safaris offer two half-day Safari of the Scenes sight-seeing tours, exploring Queenstown's scenic highlights, as well as locations used for Lord of the Rings filming. There are no sets left, just the gorgeous scenery featured in the films. These tours can be combined into a great full-day experience.
Tour A - Wakatipu Basin
This scenic tour offers goldpanning, 4WD river crossings in the Arrow Gorge and a great overview of the diverse scenery of the Queenstown/ Arrowtown area - from towns, to rolling farmland, rugged Skippers Canyon, and mountains, to the famous Kawarau Gorge bungy bridge. The tour offers you a view of the film locations of Minas Tirith, Misty Mountains, the Pillars of the Kings (Argonath), the site of Isildur's fall, and the Ford of Bruinen. You'll also overlook Deer Park Heights, where the Rohan refugees and the battle with the Wargs were filmed.
Tour B - Glenorchy
This scenic tour offers breathtaking mountain and forest views along the shores of Lake Wakatipu towards Glenorchy and on into Paradise. The tour includes the film locations of Isengard and Ithilien Camp, plus beech forests near those used for Lothlorien. You can also visit the area used to film the Seat of Seeing/ the battle of Amon Hen.
4WD Experience
If you've always wanted to get behind the wheel of an off road truck for a hands-on 4WD trip, then Nomad Safaris '4WD Experience' gives you the chance to take control.
Departing Queenstown in one of our fully equipped Land Rovers, we provide practical tuition that puts you in the driving seat and shows you what these machines can do.
- Pick up 8.00am and 1.30pm
- Allow 4 hours return to Queenstown. Hands-on tuition.
- Maximum 2 drivers per vehicle.
- Half day and full day by arrangement.

Quad Bike Experience
Personalised guided quad bike tours (4WD motorbike), exploring the trails on Queenstown Hill.
