Abel Tasman Seals & Beach Tour

Named for Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, who first visited the region in 1642, this national park is New Zealand's smallest - but it's perfectly formed for relaxation and adventure. Visitors love the way the Abel Tasman National Park mixes physical exertion with beach life. Bursts of hiking or kayaking are punctuated by sun bathing, swimming and sedate snorkelling around the characteristic granite outcrops.

The strip of coast that falls within the boundaries of the park is highly distinctive. Granite and marble formations fringe the headlands, which are cloaked in regenerating native forest. Inviting sandy beaches fill the spaces between trees and tide line. Crystal clear streams tumble down mossy valleys to join the ocean.

Today’s tour is for those who want to experience everything in the park. Starting from Kaiteriteri, you cruise to Onetahuti, via the fascinating seal colony in the Tonga Island Marine Reserve. Walk over a forested saddle to Bark Bay where you can rejoin our boat. If you are feeling energetic and have the time, you can continue walking the most varied section of the track, 2 hours to Torrent Bay, with vegetation ranging from dappled sunny regenerating Kanuka forest to dense temperate rainforest, including the Swing Bridge over Falls River. Join the Vigour Water Taxi at 4.00 or 5pm from Torrent Bay back to Kaiteriteri or Marahau.
