Rotorua - Lake Taupo
This morning you will be met at your accommodation for your morning sightseeing tour of this city. Rotorua sits calmly atop some remarkable cracks in the earth's crust - sometimes giving the impression that the town is on fire. This impression is reinforced by the hot mists of Te Puia, roaring geysers and boiling mudpools heated to unbearable temperatures. These contrast with the calm of the marae grounds and the work of the artisans at the Arts and Crafts Institute. Also see the Kiwi House, displaying these rare, native birds. Other highlights on your tour of Rotorua are the native and exotic vegetation at Rainbow Springs, which are world renowned for their pools of tame trout. The Agrodome Farm display features a vital section of New Zealand's agriculture, sheep shearing and a sheep dog display. This afternoon drive south through exotic forests until you reach the steam fields of Wairakei and Lake Taupo in the centre of the North Island. Overnight at Lake Taupo.

Day

Taupo - Tongariro National Park
This morning a guided tour will take you to the mighty Huka Falls, Wairakei, the Aratiatia Rapids and the Craters of the Moon. In the afternoon you skirt the lake and climb the slopes of Mt Ruapehu, an active volcano. Overnight at Mt Ruapehu. |
Day

National Park to Auckland or Wellington
The morning is free to explore one of the many short walks available. The park headquarters will be able to advise on routes. In the afternoon board the coach to journey to either Auckland or Wellington, arriving at approximately 7.30pm. |

4 Day Volcanic Venture Reviews
Tour reviews from past clients of Relaxing Journeys for the 4 Day Volcanic Venture. |
A superb trip. The variety of places visited on this trip and the sights seen were fantastic from the Waitomo Caves, Maori Hangi Feast, lakeside accommodation at Taupo and dramatic volcanoes in the National Park. The trip was very well organised and the coach part of the trip to Rotorua was informative with the coach driver giving a narative of places visited. We had an interesting and diverse set of tourist visits arranged during the morning at Rotorua although my only slight criticism would be that not all the events/places we visited were to my taste and I would have preferred the option to spend longer at Te Puia rather than visiting the Agrodome. The flexibility of running the trip with minimal people meant that my friend and I had the excellent tour of Taupo to ourselves. The tour guide was very knowledgable and took us to some fascinating locations. Overall really enjoyed this trip and would highly recommend especially for people who want to see lots of New Zealand in a short amount of time and see a variety of sights, places, indulging in both tourist activities and walking in the remote national parks. I valued the flexibility of being able to tailor the trip to our requirements where possible which allowed us to partake in walking in the national which we really wanted to do.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour which, since you don't have regular tours in the winter was designed especially for me. I was particularly fortunate that sometimes I had a private tour guide as no-one else was doing the tour on that day. I particularly enjoyed my time with Richard from Paradise Tours in Taupo which turned out to be a private tour full of information. I also appreciated Gus from Tongariro Hot Bus who drove me from Turangi National Park to Taupo bus station and went out of his way to show me some Maori villages. Wine tour was very good too as was walking tour around Napier - a fascinating city in terms of architecture. I learned a lot about New Zealand and about Maori culture. Since tour was organized with different companies the only hitch was that a couple of my vouchers had the wrong booking number or company on them. But it got sorted out very easily. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

I just recently returned from my trip - the 4 day Volcanic venture through North Island. It was a super trip. All independent coach trips. I was wary at first because there were so many pick up and drop offs and I was travelling alone. I was highly impressed with how well it all worked . It was like clockwork. Not one link was missing . Highly enjoyable trip . I'd certainly use your company again.
