Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua
From Auckland travel to the Bombay Hills which signal the end of sprawling city, then the lush Waikato pasture lands take you past Hamilton and on to the Waitomo caves for a subterranean boat ride under an eerie canopy of lights. On across the Mamaku Hills to fiery Rotorua. Tonight we enjoy a Maori Hangi (feast) and Concert, a quintessential New Zealand experience. Overnight in Rotorua.

Rotorua - Lake Taupo
This morning you will be met at your accommodation for your morning sightseeing tour of this city. Rotorua sits calmly atop some remarkable cracks in the earth's crust - sometimes giving the impression that the town is on fire. This impression is reinforced by the hot mists of Te Puia, roaring geysers and boiling mudpools heated to unbearable temperatures. Other highlights on your tour of Rotorua are the native and exotic vegetation at Rainbow Springs, which are world renowned for their pools of tame trout. The Agrodome Farm display features a vital section of New Zealand's agriculture, sheep shearing and a sheep dog display. This afternoon drive south through exotic forests until you reach the steam fields of Wairakei and Lake Taupo in the centre of the North Island. Overnight at Lake Taupo.

Taupo - Auckland
This morning a guided tour will take you to the mighty Huka Falls, Wairakei, the Aratiatia River Rapids and the Craters of the Moon. In the afternoon you drive via Cambridge and Hamilton to return to Auckland, arriving at aproximately 7:00 pm. |

The 3 days attraction tour was very enjoyable. Sadly, the Kiwi Encounter at the Rainbow Springs Nature Park as well as the organic tour at the Agrodome which would have been enjoyable was not included in the tour. Another hiccup on the trip was the timings of the coach departure from Taupo to Auckland. Had my family and I followed the timings listed on the voucher of a 2:15pm departure, we'd have missed the bus and been in trouble as the bus left the depot at 2pm. As it was, we were one of the last to board and were thus unable to choose our seats. Regardless, the trip was a remarkable success to my family and me considering that we booked the trip with less than a week to spare. We sincerely enjoyed the tour especially the one at Taupo which was guided by Richard whose helpfulness made the tour delightful despite the rainy weather. An unfortunate case of misplacing my camera when arriving at the Suncourt Hotel was quickly resolved when i approached the helpful concierge at the hotel in Taupo. I also thank Toni Harris for patiently answering all my daily queries by email.
