Boarding the TranzCoastal Train you pass through Picton and Blenheim, then edge down the narrow coastal strip beneath the rugged Kaikora Ranges. Cross into dry North Canterbury sheep country to Christchurch, where you will overnight. As you will arrive in the evening, you might like to add an additional day in Christchurch, the South Island's largest city.

Day

This morning is free for optional sightseeing. Now it's the rich farming country of South Otago and Southland as we travel to Balclutha and turn west to Gore. The countryside becomes drier as you reach Lumsden, Mossburn and they are your glimpse of Fiordland. Situated on Lake Te Anau, the largest lake in the South Island, Te Anau is the gateway to the wilderness area of Fiordland National Park. The Kepler, Routeburn and Milford Tracks are all in this area. Overnight in Te Anau.

Day
4
Te Anau - Milford Sound - Queenstown
As you travel through the Fiordland National Park you will pass the Mirror Lakes, the Chasm, the Homer Tunnel and the Cleddau Chasm. A cruise on Milford Sound beneath lofty Mitre Peak, waterfalls and out to the mouth of the Tasman Sea is included. Then you climb out of Milford Sound to Te Anau and across country to the alpine playground of Queenstown. Two nights in Queenstown.

Day

At Queenstown
Today is at your leisure to enjoy the many sights of Queenstown. This world renowned alpine resort offers something for everyone - you can enjoy the quiet beauty and tranquility of this mountain retreat and enjoy several walking trails in the town area. For sheer excitement there is white-water rafting, helicopter rides, the famous jet boats, bungy jumping to pump your adrenalin, and offroad 4WD tours with plenty of river crossings. There are cruises on the lake and a visit to a high country sheep station, and wine tasting tours. We have included the Skyline Gondola ride in your tour package.

Cross Burkes Pass to Fairlie and Geraldine before returning to Christchurch once more. Your tour ends on arrival at 7:15pm.

We had a wonderful time and I'm so impressed with how all the arrangements you made turned out perfectly. The hotels were all nice and clean, the buses were great and the weather for the most part couldn't have been better. I would highly recommend your company to anyone I know who is thinking of going to New Zealand. Thanks again. Muriel.
