Day
1
Depart Auckland
Your Waiheke Island adventure begins when you board the ship late afternoon for a 5pm sailing. On the way to our anchorage for the night, the ship cruises past the extinct volcanic Rangitoto Island. A few decades ago this island was a barren landscape of tumbled basalt lava; today it supports New Zealand’s largest pohutukawa forest and prolific birdlife. Your first night aboard Island Passage will be spent anchored at Waiheke Island with dinner served from 7pm.

Day
2

Explore Waiheke
Today provides the opportunity to explore Waiheke. Begin with an invigorating swim off the back of the ship, enjoy a sumptuous breakfast on the deck, then ease into a day of enjoyment Waiheke-style. From mid morning we visit three of the local vineyards and sample a selection of their vintages. On the way back to the ship we show you some of the sights on the island.

During an alfresco lunch served on the aft deck you can plan your afternoon activities. Wander along the sandy beaches, slip into a sea kayak and enjoy the tranquility of discovering the coast at your pace. Or if you want to see a lot in a short time, you can discover the island’s coastal secrets in one of our high-powered tenders.

Then there’s the fishing – our guides know all the hot spots and we have all the gear -  you catch ‘em, we’ll cook ‘em. Its hard to beat a fresh snapper that you caught yourself with a glass or two of Waiheke wine. Dinner is served from 7pm. Choose the main dining area or find a quiet table outside under the stars. The bar is open till the wee hours for those who wish to play on well after dinner.

Day
3
Cooks Cove to Deep Water Cove
After a leisurely ‘island time’ start to the day a hearty brunch is served on the aft deck as we sail through the islands back to Auckland. We are alongside Princes Wharf at noon.

The indoor-outdoor licensed bar is located in this area and is a wonderful spot to share tales with your fellow adventurers.

What We Recommend

A waterproof sunscreen, sunglasses and brimmed hats are recommended. There is a considerable reflection of suns rays off the water and one should be well protected. Whilst we encourage a relaxed atmosphere onboard we do expect a casual but tidy dress code in the evenings. The evening tempuratures do drop and a light sweater is suggested for the summer months. During spring and autumn (fall) extra clothing will be needed.

Arriving and Departing
Within your travel documentation you will find an itinerary, boarding card and a map clearly showing departure place and time of boarding. If you made your own flight arrangements, it is especially important to notify us of your flight information (city of origin, flight departure and arrival times) prior to your arrival to ensure we know when you will be arriving.
