Alpha 6 Berth Motorhome: Extra Items For Hire

Items should be booked at the same time as the campervan

* Bicycles for Hire

• Bicycles are all general purpose models suitable for both road use and moderate off road conditions.  Pure mountain bikes are not available.
• Similar children's models are available on request.
• Child seats are available and can be fitted on request 
• A maximum of three bicycles can be carried on 6 and 4 berth motorhomes.
• A maximum of 2 bicycles can be carried on all 2 and 3 berth models.
• A helmet (compulsory in New Zealand), cycle lock and repair kit are supplied with each bicycle.
• There is no extra cost for one way hire of bicycles.
• Specialist bicycles and equipment can be arranged if required 
• All bicycles are insured by United Vehicle Rentals, however an Excess of NZ $100 per bicycle and/or bicycle rack will apply to cover loss or damage.
• Costs for normal on-road maintenance will be at United Vehicle Rentals’ expense. Replacements or repairs required due to the fault of the hirer up to the value of NZ $100 per bicycle and/or bicycle rack will be met by the hirer.
• Bicycle hire should be completed at the same as the vehicle hire in order to avoid disappointment due to non availability on pick up.

Alpha 6 Berth Motorhome: Insurance Options

Standard Insurance (included in the rental price)

• Damage to the vehicle including overhead and/or under-body damage, single vehicle accident or vehicle roll over, or damage  or third party property.
• Demurrage costs - the rental rate for the days the vehicle is not available for hire due to accident repairs.
• Public Liability up to NZ$ 5,000,000.

Standard Insurance details:

• A Bond/Excess of NZ$ 5,000 must be paid on collection of the campervan or motorhome. The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$5,000 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.
• The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens.
• This Bond/Excess may be paid by cash or credit card. United Vehicle Rentals Ltd accepts Visa and Mastercard. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then a NZ$ 5,000 authorisation will be secured from the credit card company and held by United for the duration of the hire. 
• United Vehicle Rentals Ltd will not be responsible for losses resulting from bank charges, lost interest or currency fluctuations.
• Payment of the NZ$ 5,000 Bond is per incident and should damage be incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property a further Bond payment will be required.
• The Bond is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean undamaged condition, with no damage incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette and waste water tank.
• Any refund of the Bond by credit card may take up to three working days to process by the bank or credit card company and will only be refunded to the credit card it was originally debited against. 

Optional. All Inclusive Insurance (Recommended)

• Payment of NZ$ 32 per day or NZ$ 44 per day for hirers under the age of 25 years will completely waive the Bond/Excess.
• The hirer will not be responsible for any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property, or for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens, subject to the Insurance Exclusions and provided the hirer has complied with all policy conditions.
• Picnic table and chairs (one chair for each person travelling)
• Baby seat, baby capsule and/or child booster seat (if applicable)

Insurance Exclusions

The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the United vehicle or third party property if:

• The terms of the Rental Agreement entered into with United Vehicle Rentals Ltd are breached.
• Damage is caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• The vehicle is driven on restricted roads.
• Damage is due to careless, wilful or reckless driving.
• Negligence, or other act of the hirer results in water submersion or salt water damage.
• The hirer has repairs made to the vehicle without the insurer's permission.
• The hirer admits liability and accepts responsibility for third party damage.

Security Deposit

Under the All Inclusive Rates Option, details of a credit card to a maximum of NZ$ 150 will still be taken for a fuel and cleaning deposit. This deposit is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a reasonably clean condition, and with a full tank of fuel and an empty toilet cassette and waste water tank.

Traffic infringements

Details of a credit card will be held, and charges made against it if necessary, to settle all traffic infringement notices (if any) incurred by the hirer with the New Zealand Traffic Authorities.  If United pays the fine on the hirer's behalf a NZ$ 30 administration fee will be charged in addition to the fine imposed.

Personal insurance

Hirers are recommended to take personal travel insurance as United Vehicle Insurance does not provide cover for loss or damage to personal property or for personal injury.

Alpha 6 Berth Motorhome: FAQ's

How costs are calculated

No, hires are calculated on a daily rate not a 24 hour basis. Therefore the first and last days are both counted when calculating the number of hire days, regardless of the time you pick up or drop off the vehicle. The above example would be an 8 day hire.

Payment of Costs

A non refundable deposit of NZ$500 is payable immediately on receipt of confirmation.  Payment of the balance must reach Relaxing Journeys no later than 45 days prior to the pick up date.  Full payment information will be provided with the booking confirmation.  Cancellation conditions apply.

Travel Times

• 01 March to 31 March - Shoulder Season (Late Summer)
• 01 April to 30 April - Shoulder Season (Early Autumn)
• 01 May to 30 September - Low Season (Autumn & Winter)
• 01 October to 31 October - Shoulder Season (Early Spring)
• 01 November 15 December - Shoulder Season (Spring)
• 16 December to 28 February - High Season (Summer)

Cancellation and Refunds

No, the deposit will not be refunded. We recommend you take adequate Travel Insurance which may cover you for cancellation fees in certain circumstances.

Change of Drop Off Location

No.  Once travel has commenced, a change of drop off location is always subject to confirmation by Relaxing Journeys & United Vehicle Rentals and may incur the full cost of repositioning the vehicle to the original drop off location reserved.

Minimum hire period

A minimum of 7 days applies to all hires days except for all vehicle pick ups between 20 December and 02 January where the minimum hire period will be fourteen (14) days. For one way hires between the two depots (Auckland and Christchurch) a minimum of 14 days applies at all times. 

One Way Fee

No, we do not charge a one way fee but please note the 14 day minimum hire period for one way hires.

Road User's Tax

No, this is included in your hire fee.

Short Hire Refunds

No, there is no refund if you return your vehicle earlier than the reserved period.

Driver’s Licence

No. As long as you are 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid driver's licence, your country of origin licence is acceptable. However, non-English licence holders must either carry either a certified English translation of their licence or an International Driving Permit while driving. A normal car licence is all that is required to drive any vehicle. No heavy vehicle, or other special category, licence is required. No maximum age limit applies providing an appropriate valid licence is held by the hirer. The English translation referred to must be issued by one of the following authorities:

• The New Zealand Translation Service
• A diplomatic representative at a High Commission, Embassy or Consulate
• The authority that issued your overseas driver’s licence

Depots

Depots are located in Auckland and Christchurch, both conveniently located near to the International and Domestic Airports.

Vehicle delivery

No, it is necessary for you to come to our depot to collect your vehicle so we are able to complete the necessary documentation, and familiarise you with the operation of the campervan.

Automatic Transmission

Throughout the Premier range of vehicles there are automatic options at all berth sizes. In the Standard range, the 2 Berth Automatic Alpha Campervan has automatic transmission.  All other vehicles have manual transmission.

Minimum Age

The minimum age for hiring a vehicle is 21 years. There is no upper age limit.

Extra Drivers

No, we encourage you to register more than one person to share the driving for safety reasons.

Heating

Yes, all our vehicles have 240 volt electric heaters. In addition many of the models also have gas heaters. All vehicles have heating in the cab which operates when you are driving. Refer to the individual motorhome pages for full details of individual models.

Vehicle Age

The Premier range guaranteed less than 3 years old and our Standard range of campervans are between 3 and 6 years old.

Equipment

Yes, every vehicle is fully equipped at no additional cost to the hirer.

Maps and Camping Park Directories

Yes, all hires include a pack containing road maps, camping park directories, a complimentary road atlas and other tourist information.

We recommend that you consider making advance bookings for the peak holiday periods from Christmas/New Year to the Easter period, and bookings may be wise in some of the key tourist centres at other times.

Ferry Bookings

It is advisable to pre-book ferry services in advance to avoid any disappointment and inconvenience. During the peak summer season from December to March it is strongly recommended that you do so.

Breakdown Service

Yes, you can contact a United Vehicle Rentals staff member 24 hours a day on our freephone helpline. United Vehicle Rentals has a comprehensive network of Service Agents throughout the country who can assist.

Pets

We regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any of our vehicles.

Transfers

Yes, United Vehicles Rentals operates a mini coach shuttle  between Auckland and Christchurch airports and its depots.

Arrivals:  Complimentary transfers by shuttle between the Airport and Depot are available to United Campervans and Alpha Campervans clients on demand.  For transfers from Downtown Hotels or Airport Hotels, clients may use a taxi and will be reimbursed for the cost on presentation of the driver's receipt.

Departures:  Complimentary transfers are available from the  Depot to either the International or Domestic Airports by mini coach shuttle and can be arranged by clients on termination of hire.  Taxi transfers to other destinations can be arranged at the clients' expense.
